Addicted to the flat iron?
It seems as though we've had a trend of flat iron addictions. The up & coming trends are calling for curls & more texture! Flat & straight is on its way out! That means the return of healthier hair! Despite the claims of heat protection, heat (400 degrees or more most of the time) on a regular basis is going to damage your hair and fade your color. Some irons out there are better than others. Tourmaline irons throw out 3 times more negative ions that its competion. Not all tourmaline irons are the same. Some have it sprayed over the surface and baked in, and others are made with nano size tourmaline that is mixed in with the ceramic creating a solid tourmaline plate. You will pay a high price for those (at least $120 or more), but if you can't kick the habit it would be beneficial to invest in one. Beware though, reguardless of the quality of the iron, high heat will cause damage if it is used too often.
Down is the new up!
You've probably noticed that when it comes to special occasion hair the trend is for the focal point to be at the base of the head instead of the crown. Tight & chic, or loose and romantic. The hair is still mostly up, but it has a down appearance while still being securely pinned in the center back or off to the side. The key to choosing the right look is taking into account your facial shape, hair texture, occasion, & dress type. If your not comfortable designing your own style, your stylist will be able to help you create the look that will be perfect for you occasion. Brides, you must first decide which is more important your head piece or your hairstyle? If there is a specific style you desire, your stylist will be able to help you choose your appropriate head piece .
Use The Bristle!
Be sure to use a 100% boar hair brush on your hair. The best conditioner for your hair is the natural oils your body produces. A boar hair brush feels great against your scalp! It will also bring the natural oils from your scalp down to and through your ends. It's a great way to add volume and smooth the hair. Stay away from vent brushes and nylon/plastic brushes when drying. After the hair is dry you can use them to get better form in the hair, but it will tear and break wet hair.
Texture & Curl are Back
We will be seeing alot more texture! Hair with volume! Not the 80's "big hair" looks, more of a softer yet edgier look. Blunt shapes and not as many layers. Believe it or not the blunt straight bang is back.
Curls are popular again! Soft, full, & romantic with separation. Doll locks are in again! You won't need an iron to achieve them either. Try using a soft hold foam with flexible rollers, making sure when rolling them you start at the top (as close to the scalp as possible) wraping them around in a spiral allowing them to air dry. Take them out one at a time using a weightless gloss a separate them with your fingers. Gently pull them to loosen. While wraping, the smaller the section the tighter the curl. For an edgier look shake out the curls gently upside down and lt them fall where they may. Use a gloss to clean up and fly away ends.
